What is the impact of computers, iPhones, and other devices on the study of God’s word?

There are many good things that we can use us to aid in our study of the word of God. Like so many other things that are a result of an increase in knowledge, we warn as always, it depends on how you use it. When we become dependent on the screen in front of us, what do we do if the power fails? One can reasonably argue that the power in time will come back on. I have then another concern. People today read something off of the screen of a computer and because it is the internet one assumes they have gotten the truth. The internet, sometimes on purpose and other times on accident can convey the wrong message or an event.

We must therefore exercise caution as to what we accept as our authority. Our devices are a result of what is programmed into them or what is placed there by the one who made it. The devices can very well speed up the learning time by

allowing us to get to more information in a shorter time. I have no objection to speeding things up. Let us be sure we do not implant in our hearts some “seeds” which may lead to laziness. I mean we may come to knowledge so quickly that we have not taken the time to embed that knowledge in our hearts. Let me use the example of Peter.

Peter says he was writing his second epistle in order to stir up the minds of his readers by way of remembrance (2 Peter 3:1). Brethren we can learn some things so fast that we do not take time to digest what we have learned. Our access to knowledge through various electronic devices can be a blessing but if it means we take in knowledge without accepting the knowledge it becomes a curse. Faith has as its origin the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). Faith must be built upon or added to (2 Peter 1:5). What I see around me in restaurants, airports and other places is people playing “games”. Use electronic devices to speed up your time of increase of knowledge. Do not discard the turning of pages and meditation. Use speed and comprehension together.
