Thanks to Hollywood and various artist of one kind or another the world has an idea of what Jesus looked like. That is all that it is for no man knows what Jesus really looked like. Movies and or books try to show Jesus by some man’s concept of what he thought Jesus would have looked like in the first century. We do know that Jesus was the image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15). Jesus in speaking to Philip said if you have seen Me you have seen the Father (John 14:9). This could not be pointing to some physical feature in as much as God is a Spirit (John 4:24). The Bible states that God is love (I John 4:8). We can see the affects of love but love is not some object to be viewed.
Isaiah said that He had no beauty that we should desire Him (Isa. 53:2). The meaning here would be that people would be attracted to Jesus by what He did and who He was, not the way He looked. In the year of elections in this country the political parties use television, and other mediums, to create an image of their candidate. They try to explain to us what everybody in American believes and then try to convince us that their candidate is just like that. When Jesus came, He came as the truth (John 14:6). He was not here to run for office or spend time pleasing men.
No one can be a friend of God who would spend time trying to construct a Jesus different than what the Word itself reveals about Him. Jesus warned about those in the near future of His time would come and say, “I am Christ” (Matt. 24:5). In the same chapter He warns, there shall arise “false Christs” (verse 24). Jesus was approved by God before the world by miracles, wonders and signs (Acts 2:22). A man could claim to be the Christ but in reality he would have to prove it. Jesus did prove it. He was the Christ. When He was raised from the dead, this miracle showed to all reasonable minds that Jesus was exactly who He said He was.
Events taking place in Iraq and other places speaks about ISIS and their desire to control the whole world under Islamic law. When we are made aware of their beheading of children, innocent victims and anyone who will not accept the Islamic faith, the world says they are extremist or radicals. What does the Quran teach about Jesus? He was a prophet but God has no Son. There teaching would be that God could not allow His Son to die on the cross, hence God does not have a Son. No matter what the judgment may be about people who are extremist or radical, understand that the book which guides their faith present a “false Christ”.
The denominational world that claims to follow Christ presents the same type of problem. In days gone by the religious world would make the argument we are all going to heaven, just going by different roads. They would rush to John 15:1-5 and try to sell the idea that Jesus was the Vine and all the churches were the different branches. In this way no one could be wrong just as long as they believed in Jesus. This “false Christ” could be exposed by taking individuals to John 14:6. If Jesus is the way then there cannot be many ways. Jesus presented the truth that if one loves the Lord, he will do what the Lord says (Luke 6:46; John 14:15). We show to the world that the church is the body of Christ and hence the singularity of that body would not allow for a multiplicity of churches (Col. 1:18). The Spirit says through Paul that Christians in Corinth beset by divisions should be of the same mind and the same judgment. Still further, God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33).
We would know since Jesus came through the Jewish race His physical features would be within certain bounds of that race of people. By way of example Jesus condemned the idea of improper judging (Matt. 7:1-5). The right kind of judging is when one judges righteously and not according to appearance (John 7:24). Jesus’ physical size is of no significance but rather Who He was and is as revealed in scripture. He is the Son of God and in His times He will show that He is the only Potentate, Lord of lords and King of kings (I Tim. 6:15). Obey Him.
