What about the new movie “God Is Not Dead”?

There is an increase of movies being made from the viewpoint of Christian principles.  They are said to be “Christian movies” for all the family.  As to content of some of these new movies family values are lifted up, connection to a church and honest conduct by the actors and actresses are portrayed.  This in comparison to much of the filth which Hollywood produces is a breath of fresh air.  These movies very seldom have any bad language, teach a moral principle and for the most part lifts up the family unit.

I have seen the movie, “God Is Not Dead” and it falls into the above category.  A college professor in his class on philosophy condemns the idea of the existence of God and makes fun of those who believe in God.  The movie has several sub plots at work with the focus of it being the professor and one of his students.  The arguments raised by the student in defense of the existence of God are good and one can learn from the arguments which he presented.  The acting is good as people deal with the crisis in their lives.

As with all these new style movies, what happens at the end is the danger point.  In this case, the atheist professor is lead by a “pastor” to accept Jesus through the sinner’s prayer.  Is that the truth?  May one pray themselves into the body of Christ?  The Bible reveals that God does not hear the prayers of sinners (John 9:31).  One then as a sinner would not have the right of prayer (Eph. 1:3).  Well done movies, good acting or moral principles are not enough to allow false doctrines like the “sinner’s prayer” to be accepted.  In fact one of the members of “Duck Dynasty” was used to encourage it at some kind of rock concert.  As with all movies, discuss with your children what they have just seen and how it relates to truth.
