Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”

Those who believe in the Rapture teach that God failed to set up the kingdom and will establish it in our time. They choose to believe that the righteous people will inherit the earth. When men leave the Word of God and go about to establish their own righteousness, they will teach and reach false conclusions. God is not the author of confusion (I Cor. 14:33). The Bible is written by God and therefore there is harmony with all that is revealed (II Timothy 3:16). Rather than looking for the righteous people in inherit the earth let us turn to the spiritual application and know what Jesus is teaching here in Matthew 5.

Isaiah said that in the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house would be established (Isaiah 2:2). Paul identifies the house of the Lord being the church of the living God ( I Timothy 3:15). Those who believe in the Rapture see the church as being some kind of inferior product because God could not establish the kingdom in the first century. As we continue in chapter 2, Isaiah said the Messiah would judge among the nations and rebuke many people (verse 4). Jesus taught that not all men would be saved (Matt. 7:13,14). Therefore what Isaiah was teaching was that Jesus would rebuke many people through the truth. The Word of God is the means of rebuke (II Tim. 3:16).

When we come to Isaiah 11, the prophet spoke about the work of the Messiah. When Jesus would come, He would with righteousness judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth. Those poor in spirit would inherit the kingdom of God (Matt. 5:3). The meek, having been reproved by the Word of God, would inherit the earth. Not the physical earth, such as the land of Israel but the spiritual kingdom over all the earth. Jesus said to Pilate, My kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36).The faithful are living in the world created by God through Jesus, it is the church of Christ.
