There can be two ways to view divisions in this case. One is if there are internal wars going on in the home and the second is there is a division caused by some not obeying the truth. Internal conflicts can be overcome if both parties are willing to submit to Jesus and His way (Luke 6:46; John 14:6). A husband must learn to love his wife, not as the world does, but love his wife as Christ loved the church (Epesians.5:25). A woman should be taught through the means of older Christian women how to love their husbands and love their children (Titus 2:4). Internal conflicts can be resolved if the desire is to open one’s heart and learn the way of the Lord.
As to the second area, divisions occur because of the nature of the truth that was given us by God. Jesus warned that He did not come to bring peace but a sword (Matthew 10:34). The truth is used by God to reach our hearts. Those on the day of Pentecost were touched by truth when they “heard this: (Acts 2:37). Faith comes by hearing, that is understanding what God is telling us by means of His revealed will (Rom.10:17). Faith always moves beyond that point. It must have a command involved in order for a person to come to faith. In the absence of a command, how would you know the demands of faith?
This is shown again in Acts 2:37 with the wording, “…what shall we do”. As we often say, faith never stops at the door of belief. Noah believed but he had to step through the door of belief and build an ark to save himself and his family (Hebrews 11:7). About 3000 in Acts 2 were baptized that day for the remission of their sins in the name of the Lord. In many homes around the world, some understand and then ask, what do I need to do. If properly taught they will be baptized into Christ in order to put on Christ (Rom.6:4; Gal. 3:27). If others in the family do not accept those truths, division occurs. One does not leave their marriage but through Christ they can through the Word receive strength to live in a divided home (Phil. 4:13).
